While watching a documentary on Netflix following doctors from their early days of medical school through being a practicing physician, one of the doctors (after being a practicing physician for a number of years) was talking about the negative effects of alcohol on the human body. He said that he has seen more people die due to alcohol, whether by drinking it or alcohol related accidents, than by cancer or any other illness. Some may say, "I only drink socially. I don't drink to get drunk." But I want to ask, "Why take that chance?" Someone I know personally started drinking one glass of wine a night for health reasons about 11-13 years ago. Now this friend is an alcoholic, been arrested for drunk driving, no longer has the job they trained for, and no longer has their children. This just saddens me. Please know, I don't hate people who drink. Quite the contrary! I just know that there are so many negative effects of drinking that it just makes my heart sad.
Proverbs 20:1 "Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise."
Proverbs 23:29-35 "Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging.'They hit me,' you will say, 'but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it!' When will I wake up so I can find another drink?'”
